Cole, a special therapy dog at a local school, has been a beloved part of the students’ lives for nearly seven years. Over that time, he has become not just a companion, but a source of comfort, joy, and unconditional love. The students adore him for his gentle nature, his warmth, and the way he can sense their moods. Every year on Cole’s birthday, the students throw a grand celebration to show just how much he means to them.

“As a school, we have celebrated Cole’s birthday every year he’s been part of our family,” said Chris Hannah, Cole’s owner. “Even during the pandemic, we held virtual celebrations so he could still feel the love from the students.”

This year’s birthday was extra special. Cole got to ride in a custom birthday wagon, wearing an adorable birthday outfit. A lucky group of students was chosen to push Cole’s wagon into the cafeteria, where the entire school was waiting. Excitement filled the room as everyone prepared a very special surprise for their four-legged friend.

Because Cole is deaf, the students learned to sign “Happy Birthday” in sign language. As the song began, they carefully signed every word, their eyes focused intently on their hands. Cole, from his wagon, looked around, wagging his tail, bouncing with joy, and completely mesmerized by the performance. His playful and excited expressions made everyone feel the deep connection between him and the students.

“He was so playful and mischievous all day,” Hannah recalled. “Usually, Cole is calm while working, but on his birthday, he was full of energy. He watched every hand movement as the students signed, soaking in all their love and attention.”

The students’ excitement grew as they saw Cole enjoying their performance. Every smile, every wag of his tail, reflected the mutual love and affection between Cole and the children. “The kids were thrilled to be such an important part of his special day,” Hannah said. “They practiced signing the song for two weeks to make it perfect for their boy.”

After the song, Cole was treated to his annual birthday cheeseburger, and the cafeteria erupted with cheers as he devoured it happily. Exhausted but overjoyed, Cole was wheeled back in his birthday wagon, ending the celebration with a full heart and a happy tummy.
