On a cold day in January 2025, by the Rochdale Canal in Manchester, a tiny life was struggling against the harsh challenges of survival. Pearla, a 14-week-old Cane Corso puppy, was found abandoned in a severely weakened state, with flaky, scratched skin and painful wounds. Her once glossy coat had completely fallen out, leaving bare patches on her fragile body.

Without a microchip or collar, Pearla was like a forgotten piece in society — a heartbreaking reminder of small creatures full of value yet left injured and alone. However, luck smiled upon her when she was discovered and taken to the Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home, where her miraculous journey of recovery began.

The wounds on Pearla’s face and front legs were not only physical scars but also symbols of the hardships and suffering she had endured. Thanks to the dedication and boundless love of the veterinary team at the RSPCA Greater Manchester Animal Hospital, Pearla was cared for like a little angel, fighting each day to regain her health.

RSPCA Inspector Jess Pierce, who has been closely involved with Pearla’s case, said:
